A Study on Depressive Tendency of Long term Hemodialytic Patients with End Stage Renal Disease

Abstract
This study on depressive tendency and characteristics of 32 long-term hemodialytic patients with end stage renal disease(ESRD) using MMPI and Beck Depression Inventory shows that:
Firstly, the mean of hemodialytic patients group was statistically significant compared to that of normal control group on Hs. D Hy scales of MMPI. So, this patients group tend to manifest their general depressive tendency, excessive adherence to
health, anxiety, emotional stress and the their physical symptoms by way of repression, avoidance and denial. Secondly, the mean of hemodialytic patients group was higher than that of normal control group in terms of M-DI, M-CI and Al but to
statistical
significance was found.
Thirdly, the IR of hemodialytic patients groups was significantly high compared to that of normal control group, which shows that the patients group tend to internalize their emotional conflicts.
Fourthly, the mean value of hemodialytic patients groups on BDI was significantly higher than that of normal control group. This can be interpreted that this patients group profoundly experience subjective feeling of depression.
Lastly, positive correlation was found between D scale of MMPI and BDI.
